Beach Baby Paddling: Description
Back to Figurative Gallery
The beach baby paddling in a rock pool is a figure study of my elder daughter. It is based on a very old photo that brings back happy memories. This was my first real attempt to diverge from the natural colours of my source picture. I started by using an overall base wash of cadmium yellow, which has given the finished work a bright warm glow. I introduced bold, unrealistic hues in the sand whilst retaining the original colours of the figure’s clothing. The result is a stylised and cheerful composition – a great improvement on what was a very dull and ordinary photograph.
