Beach Baby Rock Climbing: Description

This painting of a beach baby rock climbing is the second of two ‘Beach Baby’ pictures. This study was based on an old photograph of my younger daughter as a toddler. The original snap was taken at an indoor pool as she climbed up onto the side. I have placed her small figure in an imaginary setting, scrambling onto a rock and looking out to the horizon.

This acrylic painting shows a baby climbing on a rock on a sandy beach. Her right leg stands in a pool of water whilst she scrambles with her left onto the rock. Nearby lies a discarded plastic bucket that she has been playing with. Someone has clearly used this to build a sandcastle at the edge of dunes to the right of the picture. The child is looking out to the sea and far horizon.
