“Ready, Steady … Go!”: Description
“Ready, Steady … Go!” is a diptych made up of two acrylic pictures portraying a children’s sports day race, which I filmed on my mobile.
On the right, the small figures are eagerly lined up under starter’s orders, waiting for the teacher to blow her whistle. Their body language seems to say something about each of their characters. Four out of the five youngsters look directly at the teacher, keen to catch a visual signal, whilst the fifth child crouches eagerly in a classic starting position, focussing on the challenge ahead.
On the left, the teacher’s whistle has blown and the sprint is under way. It would have been lovely to record the end of the competition, but sadly it was physically impossible for me to be at the finishing line! The big question remains: “Who won?”
I have tried to create motion blur around the limbs of the figures, whilst the warm colouring of the field behind them adds to the impression of movement.
