The Flying Scotsman: Description
On a grey day in December, my daughter took a video of famous steam train, the ‘Flying Scotsman’. I then made a screen shot of the speeding train for this composition. Allowing the black paper to show through for the dark areas, the front of the engine and carriage outlines, I worked in very soft pastels to create the blurry effect. The railway lines were drawn with a sharp pastel pencil. If you look closely, you may also be able to spot a hardy train enthusiast who has ventured into a field to the right of the picture, camera at the ready.
